LONDON - Messy Media Ltd. today announces the launch of Westmonster, a new online publication about British politics. This marks the first launch from MessyMedia, the London-based online publishing company formed earlier this month by Lloyd Shepherd, formerly of Guardian Unlimited and Yahoo Europe, and Andrew Levy, formerly of Yahoo Europe.

Westmonster (http://www.westmonster.com) is written by Sadie Smith and will provide an insider's irreverent view on the British political scene. This week, Westmonster is blogging live from the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth.

Lloyd Shepherd, co-founder and co-Managing Director of Messy Media Ltd. (http://www.messymedia.net), said: “You wouldn't know it from reading the established British media, but politics is a fascinating spectator sport. We want to make politics coverage sexy again; we've had enough of middle-aged men in TV studios shouting 'liar!' at each other. Westmonster will be irreverent, clued-up and scurrilous. We care about politics, we even care about politicians. They're a lot more interesting than soap opera actresses.”

Westmonster delivers on the proposition MessyMedia was launched with: that it is possible to produce well-written, professionally-executed media at very low cost thanks to the explosion in online publishing tools.

Shepherd said: “We believe there's a yawning gap in British political coverage, between the established media, which have fallen into the “us-and-them” trap, and the partisan political blogs like Iain Dale's Diary and Guido Fawkes. We want to launch into that gap, combining the professional aspirations of the established media with the speed, openness and smarts of the bloggers.”

Westmonster will encourage users to comment on stories, and even to submit tips and news directly to the editor (tips@westmonster.com).

Advertising on the site will be sold by Ad2One, one of the UK's leading advertising sales houses.
